On April 6th 2010, Jamie joined the most listened to radio station in the UK, BBC Radio 2, to host an hourly jazz show every Tuesday at 7pm.
Jamie Cullum showcases his love for all types of jazz and music rooted in jazz, from its heritage to its future. Featuring live sessions and guests from around the world
Kicking things off that night with a session from Polar Bear, the show has gone from strength to strength and has featured renowned musicians from all parts of the jazz world including Bobby McFerrin, Kyle Eastwood, Kurt Elling, Bad Plus and Dee Dee Bridgewater.
With his radio-friendly voice and passion for music, Jamie has really found his niche.
First Year Highlights
This superb two-part special got a lot of people talking! A fascinating insight into Clint and his love of jazz, it was a great opportunity for Jamie to practice his interviewing skills! A very animated and warm discussion ensued and it was plain to see the mutual admiration between these two friends.
Jamie says: “Interviewing Clint Eastwood for my Radio 2 show was a true honour. He was overflowing with stories, good humour and enthusiasm for the chance to discuss his favourite topic - music. He has spent a lifetime immersed in jazz and not only picked some great music to listen to but had superb stories to weave around them.”

In November, we were treated to another two-part special, this time with American jazz pianist and composer Dave Brubeck. Jamie said he felt honoured to spend time with and interview this legend.

Other highlights from the year include a special show dedicated to the memory of Sir John Dankworth. Jamie even broadcast his show from the Cheltenham and Newport Jazz Festivals. The show received a nomination for Best Show/Podcast and Jamie was involved in the new 2010 Radio 2 ad campaign
To show how well the show has been received, see this positive review published in the Guardian in September 2010.
Aswell as giving new jazz artists a platform, we’ve enjoyed some rare recordings from the BBC archives, to which Jamie has been allowed access.
In this journey into jazz, Jamie has introduced me to music, old and new, that I may never have come across otherwise. Having such an innovative and forward-thinking musician, who happens to be a huge music fan himself, to front the show has proved to be a great choice.
The Jamie Cullum Show has changed Tuesdays for fans round the world! We wonder with anticipation what delights Jamie has in store for the remainder of 2011.
Congratulations to Jamie, the production team at Folded Wing and BBC Radio 2 on an excellent first year!
