On April 6th 2010, Jamie Cullum and production company Folded Wing took the reins for the Tuesday 7-8pm specialist slot on UK's most listened-to radio station BBC Radio 2. With jazz as the theme of this hour long show, Jamie has proved himself a very able and popular presenter, showcasing artists new and old from across the jazz world. Almost eighteen months on and the programme is only getting better! A clear indication of Jamie's broadcasting calibre was the invitation to co-host the hugely popular BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show for a special promotional day last June. Read about it here
With his finger on the jazz pulse, not only do we get to hear exclusive live sessions and interviews but Jamie also digs up rare BBC archive tracks, introduces brand new talent and gives us a weekly rundown of what's hot on the live scene. So much to feast our ears on, I'm amazed he can manage to squeeze it all into one hour!
Personally, I've enjoyed exploring music I probably would not have come across on my own. The enthusiasm and love of music that Jamie has is very infectious. Hands down, my absolute favourite new introduction by Jamie so far is the voice that is Gregory Porter, though of course there are many more I've enjoyed also. What has been your favourite?
