Friday Roundup: Cullum Goes Global

Hope you enjoyed the very first edition of Friday Roundup 'Heavy Metal Meets Jazz' last week. While Britain has been sizzling in an unseasonal heatwave, things have been hotting up on the blog too! There's a lot for you this time, so why not grab a cuppa, put your feet up and catch up with what's been happening in the wonderful world of Cullum (and beyond!)

  • Congratulations to Jamie and the Folded Wing production team! Their radio show is going global. The hour of jazz debuts on Canada's Jazz FM91 tomorrow morning and on France's TSF Jazz on October 9th. Read about it here and see what Ross Porter, president of Jazz FM91, had to say about Jamie here
  • Fancy a sneaky peak (well, a sneaky listen!) behind the scenes at BBC Radio 2 with Jamie? Here you go!
  • From Celebrity to Radio Star Jamie has been selected to join a panel for the Radio Academy on November 1st
  • Did you listen to the superb Wynton Marsalis interview? If you missed it, make sure you catch up before Tuesday here and download Jamie's weekly podcast
  • We were treated to a rare interview by Kazbar TV with Ben Cullum in Sunhatch Studios. Watch it here
  • 'Delovely' by the 'notable' Anthony Strong was released on Tuesday to rave reviews and a sold-out album launch at Pizza Express Jazz Club that night! Don't miss him on tour in the UK during October/November - www.anthonystrong.co.uk
  • It's been a busy week for Sophie Dahl. Her documentary The  Marvellous Mrs Beeton was broadcast last night on BBC2. It is available to watch on BBC iplayer (UK viewers only I believe). She was also interviewed on the Jo Whiley show (BBC Radio 2) on Wednesday night, attended a book signing in Chorleywood Thursday, articles in VogueTelegraph and more
  • Read a new interview with Jamie in November's Jazz UK Magazine
  • The ReVoice! Festival kicks off next week. Nine days of amazing jazz in London, not to be missed! Phone Pizza Express Jazz Club, Soho to check ticket availabilty on 0845 6027 017
  • Voting for The Big Audition is temporarily closed while the Top 10 are selected. Check out the fantastic new song from All Things Cullum favourite Kyan Kuatois in his live audition video
  • My other favourite for The Big Audition is Charlese Allen, interviewed here last week. Watch her live audition here
  • Here's an artist recommendation for you. Singer-songwriter Melissa James. Check out I Need You Here, a beautiful track. This lady is one to watch!
  • Not one but two interviews this week! First up, read Sandra's excellent interview with the 'Delovely' Anthony Strong
  • Jamie recently collaborated with the Stereo MCs. I was excited to get the chance to interview Rob and ask him about working with Jamie and more. Read what he had to say here
Don't miss:
  • My upcoming interview with ReVoice! Festival director and vocalist Georgia Mancio
  • The incredible Gregory Porter returns to the UK this week. He plays Hare & Hounds, Birmingham on October 5th. His London shows are sold out but it may be worth phoning to see if there are any last minute cancellations
  • On the next radio show is a live session with American jazz pianist Brad Mehldau. Tune in from 7pm this Tuesday on BBC Radio 2
  • Jamie and the Silver Ring Choir play a charity concert in Bath on October 8th. They played together earlier this year and you can read how it went here
  • From October 14th, Jamie will be hanging in an art gallery! Details here
Of course, these are just the best bits. Why not subscribe to All Things Cullum (just add your email in the little box on the top right-hand corner of the homepage) and you will get the new blogposts in a daily email so you won't miss a thing!

Because Jamie is going global with his jazz radio show, I'll leave you with a stunning rendition of 'If I Ruled The World'. Enjoy!
