Friday Roundup: The New Album - One Step Closer

A warm welcome to the this week's edition of Friday Roundup!

Firstly, the very latest update from Jamie came last night on Twitter:

Listening excitedly over the 18 new tracks I've been working on and looking forward to blowing them up with my collaborators....

This is great news! It raises a few questions in my mind - how many of the 18 tracks will make the final cut?  Who are the collaborators? When will the album be released? Only time will tell but one thing is sure. Fans are certainly getting excited about the next Cullum creation!

Even though he is busy in the studio, Jamie still finds time for other projects. Don't miss his part in the special Titanic commemoration tomorrow on BBC Two when he explores the music onboard ship. The show starts at 20:30. Read more

A world exclusive! You may recall Jamie played a charity gig back in February, to raise funds for children's hospice Helen and Douglas, alongside Eliza Doolittle, KT Tunstall, Theo Jackson and others. A highlight for many was the impromptu performance of Jamie with beatboxer Beardyman. From Monday for a short time, a recording of this live performance will be available for download for just £1, all proceeds going to Helen and Douglas. Great news for JC fans and a fantastic way to help this worthy cause! If you haven't come across Beardyman, be sure to check him out. Nothing short of amazing!

Coming up on Jamie's BBC Radio 2 show this Tuesday is an interview with American pianist, singer and composer Dr John. Tune in from 7pm on BBC Radio 2. There's still time to catch up with the last show, featuring a Maida Vale session with Curtis Stigers. Be sure to listen out for a track by American jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery, notably cited as a big inspiration to Jimi Hendrix. To hear more from one of the jazz guitarist greats, visit
