Jazz Standards Part 6: Just One of Those Things

Now a classic in the Amercian Songbook, Cole Porter wrote Just One of Those Things for the musical Jubilee back in 1935.

Some of the artists who have recorded versions of the standard include Bing Crosby, Mel Torme, Billie Holiday and Bryan Ferry.

It is the opening track on Jamie Cullum's last album The Pursuit, arranged by American musician/composer Frank Foster and accompanied by the Count Basie Orchestra.

Listen to Doris Day, Louis Armstrong and Jamie Cullum sing Just One of Those Things.

Lyrics

It was just one of those things
Just one of those crazy flings
One of those bells that now and then rings
Just one of those things

It was just one of those nights
Just one of those fabulous flights
A trip to the moon on gossamer wings
Just one of those things

If we'd thought a bit about the end of it
When we started painting the town
We'd have been aware that our love affair
Was too hot not to cool down

So good-bye, dear, and amen
Here's hoping we meet now and then
It was great fun
But it was just one of those things
