Jazz Standards Part 7: What a Difference a Day Made

Jamie Cullum covered What a Difference a Day Made on his Twentysomething album. But you may not know it was originally written by a Mexican songwriter Maria Grever in Spanish and called Cuando Vuelva A Tu Lado (When I Return To Your Side). The English lyrics were penned by Stanley Adams and the song made famous by Dinah Washington and won her a Grammy Award in 1959.

Other artists who have recorded the song include Dean Martin, Sarah Vaughan and Bobby Darin.

Enjoy my selection below - the Spanish version, Aretha Franklin and Jamie Cullum.

Lyrics
What a difference a day made, twenty four little hours
Brought the sun and the flowers where there use to be rain
My yesterday was blue dear
Today I'm a part of you dear
My lonely nights are through dear
Since you said you were mine
Oh, what a difference a day made
There's a rainbow before me
Skies above can't be stormy since that moment of bliss
That thrilling kiss
It's heaven when you find romance on your menu
What a difference a day made
And the difference is you, is you

My yesterday was blue dear
Still I'm a part of you dear
My lonely nights are through dear
Since you said you were mine
Oh, what a difference a day made
There's a rainbow before me
Skies above can't be stormy since that moment of bliss
That thrilling kiss
It's heaven when you find romance on your menu
What a difference a day made
And the difference is you, is you, is you
