Friday Roundup: Summer - a time of fun, holidays and sunny weather

Good morning to you!

I'm back after a brief sabbatical and can't wait to update you on the latest JC news here on All Things Cullum! I trust the title of this post fits you and that you've had a fun summer so far. So what you might ask has our favourite jazzman been up to these past few weeks? As we have come to expect, he hasn't stopped! Here's a little roundup for your perusal:

Jamie's Travels
  • With festivals in France, Belgium, Austria, Czech Republic, Spain, Portugal, UK, Switzerland and Germany, Jamie and the band have been wowing audiences, playing to many thousands of people across Europe, notably breaking records at the Heineken Jazzaldia concert on a Spanish beach. Read how many were there!
  • This weekend sees Jamie back in the UK at V Festival, then he finishes off the summer with three dates in Germany. This Sunday, you can submit your questions to Jamie on Facebook and he will be chatting live from V Fest. Be online from 19:40!

What else?
  • I am happy to be hearing the THIRD single from Momentum already getting airplay! Listen out for the catchy You're Not The Only One on your local radio station. Learn the lyrics and watch the video of Jamie performing the song live in Paris
  • Here's something very exciting! German fans: Would you like to sing live on stage with Jamie? He will be the special guest at German Radio Awards 2013 on September 5th in Hamburg and is looking for a backing singer to join him on his latest single You're Not The Only One. Listen to Jamie's message and find out how to apply here
  • A new date for the German leg of the tour has been added. Buy tickets and see all the dates so far here
  • Backtracking a bit, Jamie had another prime-time TV appearance on the UK's This Morning show on July 19th with presenters Emma Bunton and Jamie Theakston. After the interview, Jamie performed Edge Of Something. If you missed it, watch here:

  • Jamie joined Chris Evans for breakfast on BBC Radio 2 two weeks ago, ahead of his live set at CarFest 2013. There was also a top tenuous on JC! You can listen to the interview here
  • A meeting of creative minds: watch Jamie's demo of the new concept 'Seaboard' here
  • Have you listened lately?  Jamie's BBC Radio 2 show continues to showcase great jazz, both old and new. Such an education and who better to show us the ropes than a real music fan through and through. JC is the perfect guide. See what you've been missing
  • Coming up on next week's radio show is an all-star Kit Downes Ensemble. British pianist Kit Downes brings together the cream of the British jazz scene throughout the decades for this exclusive session for Jamie's show. Kit's usual quintet is joined by Chris Montague on guitar, Julian Siegel on bass clarinet, Lewis Wright on drums and vibes and the great tenor saxophonist Stan Sulzmann to play tracks from Kit's latest album, Light From Old Stars. Tune in on Tuesday from 7pm.

In other news

I am sure you are still enjoying Momentum but there are some more cracking new releases on the horizon that you must not miss! My highlights below are of artists I have been plugging for some time but don't just take my word for it. You will hear them all on Jamie's show too!

  • Mr Gregory Porter is gearing up for the imminent release of his third album Liquid Spirit and it's been so nice to hear Jamie plugging tracks from the record on his radio show over the last couple of weeks. What did you think of them? The new album is very very special, this man is crazily talented! Gregory has been touring the world non-stop and will be appearing at the beautiful Royal Albert Hall in London on October 30th.   • Signs: Kaz Simmons has announced her album launch will take place on Wednesday October 2nd at Pizza Express Jazz Club - book your ticketsThere is just a short time left for you to make a pledge which means getting your copy of the new record ahead of release date aswell as some exciting bonuses!   • A date for your diary: ReVoice! Festival, now in it's fourth year, will take place October 10-19 2013 at Pizza Express Jazz Club in London. The lovely Georgia Mancio has once again booked some exciting artists, find out more at revoicefestival.com
